In November 2021, City Council adopted a revision to Article 3.09 Tree Protection. The revision requires that all new residential and commercial projects must submit a tree survey with development and building permit applications. The adopted revision adds two categories of trees, Protected Trees and Grand Trees. Also, it prohibits Protected and Grand trees from being cut down or destroyed from properties where there are no improvements or, properties described as vacant land. Beginning March 15, Development Services will require a tree survey by a licensed surveyor that shows Protected and Grand trees that will remain and those that will be cut down on the property where development is proposed. In other words, in order to apply for a permit for new construction, you will be required to submit a tree survey along with the other documents listed on the Checklist, or page 9 of the building permit application.
