Dwight D. King, DVM was born in Wharton County and grew up on a dairy with his parents and three brothers – he knows what 24/7 and 365 days a year means. He attended Texas A&M and earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1970. He practiced in Houston for four years and then returned to Wharton to open a mixed practice that ultimately involved banking and ranch management.
He and his wife Jamie met in college and have been married 54 years. They have two daughters and three granddaughters. Jamie taught school for many years. They moved to Horseshoe Bay in 2006, but with the help of their daughter, continue the ranch management operation which includes oil and gas work and management of two foundations dedicated to building and funding Boys and Girls Clubs. Community and professional service has always been a big part of the King Family life. Dr. King has served on the Wharton ISD School Board, as President of the Texas Veterinary Medical Association, Wharton County Youth Fair Board, Chairman of the American Veterinary Medical - Health, Disability, and Life Insurance Trust (services offered to over 95,000 AVMA members and their families).
Dr. King has enjoyed a full life and looks forward to the challenges of serving the citizens of Horseshoe Bay. This is a fabulous place to live and the goal of the City Council is to plan and work with residents and city employees to “Make It Better”. May God bless our efforts.
