Help Inventory Our Water Supply by Completing the Lead Service Line Survey!
Reason for the Survey: In revising the Lead and Copper Rule, the EPA requires all water systems to provide information on service line material to rule out the potential for lead or galvanized exposure to lead water lines. This information must be provided by October 2024 and includes public and privately owned water line information.
How are we going to accomplish this? To obtain this information, the City of Horseshoe Bay Requests Citizen input via an Online Survey with details on their private service line material and the year the home was built.
The City of Horseshoe Bay has not identified any lead in its distribution system. However, to fully confirm this for the EPA's required inventory, we are meticulously reviewing all public records related to service line materials. Additionally, we are conducting on-site verification of many of
our own lines. While we possess sufficient data to verify city-owned service line materials, the relatively recent establishment of our municipality necessitates further information on privately owned sections of the water line to ensure complete verification.
Many homes are likely to be confirmed as non-lead since they were constructed during a period when the use of lead was prohibited. In such instances, it's crucial to ensure accurate records of the home's age. While we've gathered information from various counties, there's still a significant gap in home age data, highlighting an area where property owners' assistance is needed.
It's essential to emphasize that even homes classified as "not at risk" will be requested to provide additional information. This inventory serves as a preliminary step toward eliminating potentially hazardous line materials. As regulations evolve, specific details that currently do not render a line non-compliant may do so.
Homes with established ages predating the Lead Ban or falling within its compliance grace period will be requested to provide further information, such as plumbing records or photographic verification of line materials.

While some aspects of this process may appear daunting, please rest assured that we're here to assist you every step of the way. If you cannot provide the requested information in the survey, please understand that simply informing us of this fact is immensely helpful. We can work with you to get the information needed in these cases.

Completing the EPA-mandated inventory is a rigorous undertaking, yet as a city, we wholeheartedly embrace it to ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens. Our commitment is to deliver the highest quality water to our community, and we're dedicated to achieving this objective by any means necessary. Not only do we prioritize the welfare of our residents, but as water professionals, we're deeply passionate about the national imperative for clean water. We believe this inventory will be invaluable to water consumers across the United States, so we enthusiastically participate.
Moreover, we're profoundly thankful for the support of residents who aid us in our mission to provide the finest water possible. We extend our sincere gratitude to all who contributed to this survey.
Q&A: What if we can't determine the material of the water line? In such instances, visual inspections of water yard lines will be necessary. The city is fully prepared to conduct these inspections, but property owners who prefer to handle them themselves are welcome to do so.
What if lead or galvanized materials containing lead are discovered? If lead or galvanized materials containing lead are found in the city-owned public water system, the city will promptly schedule their removal. If such materials are found on privately owned water yard lines, the city will collaborate with the property owner to devise a removal plan. Both state and federal governments are ready to provide financial assistance in such cases, and the city will ensure that homeowners are informed about all available support options.
Anyone potentially exposed to these lines will receive immediate notice. Moreover, the city is prepared to distribute faucet filters capable of filtering lead to anyone affected by this situation.
