The City of Horseshoe Bay is currently experiencing objectionable taste and odor issues in our drinking water. The reports started on June 8th and have been citywide. We traced the smell to the lake water that we treat. Other communities that draw water from the Colorado River currently share the same issue. The additional velocities from the large flood related releases from Lake Buchanan have stirred up bottom sediments that have contributed to the odors. All tests that we have conducted have indicated the water continues to be safe to drink, but can have an unpleasant odor. Disinfection levels throughout our water distribution system indicate that the water is safe to drink despite any odor.
We are continuously monitoring the issue and responding by increasing treatment levels to do our best to eliminate these aesthetic issues. We have also increased the flushing of mainlines to ensure fresh water replaces areas where odors have been reported. Even though we believe the source of the odor issue is diminishing, the lake may take some time to stabilize and know that we will be working aggressively to resolve this issue.
We appreciate your patience with this issue. If you have any questions or if you continue to odor issues, please contact the Steve with the City at (830) 598-9983 for assistance.
